When was the last time you checked in with your body and noticed where you might be holding tension and stress? Take a moment to pause, take a deep breath, and relax your shoulders. Do you notice tightness in your throat? Discomfort in your chest or tingling in your hands? Are your feet cold or warm? Just a few minutes doing this exercise can activate your parasympathetic nervous system and your body’s healing responses.
Trauma and challenging emotions are often experienced in the body and can get stuck there if we are not regularly checking in and allowing ourselves to move through it. When energy settles in the body and isn’t properly metabolized, we can experience trauma and negative emotions as physical symptoms. This can look like joint pain, chronic digestive issues, heart palpitations, incontinence, headaches, or painful menstrual cramps.
Challenge yourself to find safety in your body by allowing more quiet moments. Rotate your wrists, neck, and ankles. Place your right hand on your heart and the other on your lower abdomen when you notice these areas being activated.
